Where can I buy a squeeze chute?

The 32 squeeze chutes here are listed at AL Silencer, Ackerman's, Farm and Ranch Store, Howard Stores, Linn Post and Pipe, NRS, Salt Creek and Tractor Supply.

What is a squeeze chute?

A steel stall that holds one animal still. A headgate catches the head and the sides squeeze in, so you can vaccinate, tag, doctor, pregnancy check or trim hooves safely.

What is the difference between a manual and a hydraulic squeeze chute?

A manual chute is worked by hand with levers and needs no power. A hydraulic chute uses a pump to close the headgate and squeeze, which is faster and takes less effort. Manual chutes here run $2,850 to $15,350; hydraulic chutes run $14,740 to $32,850. Manual vs hydraulic goes deeper.

How many head do I need before a hydraulic chute makes sense?

Under 50 head, a good manual chute handles the work. Past 150 head, or with only one person working cattle, a hydraulic chute starts to make sense.

Which squeeze chute has the longest warranty?

Arrowquip’s 8700, 8800 and 1080 carry 15 years, and the 7500 carries 10 years plus lifetime on locks and floor. Priefert gives 5 years with lifetime on locks; Tarter gives 1 year.

What power does a hydraulic chute need?

It depends on the model: 220V single phase (W-W Ranchmaster), three-phase (W-W Super Pro), a Honda gas engine (Salt Creek), or electric, gas or tractor hydraulics (Arrowquip 1070). Some prices do not include the power unit, such as the Arrowquip 1050.

Do squeeze chute prices include delivery?

No. Freight is extra on nearly all chutes, and a chute can weigh 1,000 to 2,800 pounds or more.

What does a used squeeze chute cost?

Older manual chutes sell for about $1,300 to $3,200 on classifieds. Newer premium manual and hydraulic chutes sell used for $7,500 to $16,000. Check the headgate latch, squeeze locks and floor before buying.

What is a palpation or vet cage?

A gated section behind the chute that lets you stand safely behind the animal for pregnancy checking and AI. Arrowquip sells the 7500 with a vet cage for $8,950.

What is a split tailgate and side exit?

A split tailgate lets you close the back of the chute behind one animal while the next waits. A side exit lets cattle leave to the side instead of walking straight out. The Priefert S04 has both.

Why do some chutes have rubber floors?

A rubber floor gives better footing and cuts the noise of hooves on steel, which keeps cattle calmer. The Arrowquip 7500 has one.

What does parallel squeeze mean?

Both sides of the chute close evenly toward the middle, so the animal is held along its whole body. The Titan West Equalizer uses a parallel squeeze.

Can a squeeze chute handle calves?

Most chutes are sized for yearlings and cows. Small calves can turn around or slip through, so a calf table or a chute with adjustable width handles them better.

Do I need an alley and a crowding tub with a chute?

Cattle flow into a chute much better from an alley fed by a crowding tub or Bud Box. Working system costs covers full setups for 25 to 250 head.

Is a portable squeeze chute worth it?

If you work cattle at more than one place or on rented ground, yes. Portable chute and alley systems start around $15,000. Portable corrals and chutes compares them.

What should I check before buying a squeeze chute?

Headgate type, length, weight, warranty, whether it has a side exit and palpation access, floor type, and freight. The buying guide lists twelve checks and questions for the dealer.
