Bigger cows on a budget: Tarter Series 6
500 lb heavier than the S0191 and 15 inches longer. The trade is a manual-only headgate and a 1-year warranty.
Smallest budget: Tarter Series 3
$2,999 with an auto headgate. Fits smaller breeds and calves. Skip it for horned or heavy cattle.

What You Give Up Under $5,000
Weight
Chutes in this range weigh 900 to 1,500 lb. A $7,000 to $10,000 chute weighs 1,700 to 2,100 lb. Lighter chutes flex and shift with big cows and bulls.
Floor
Every chute here has a steel floor. Rubber floors, which cut noise and slipping, start around $7,000 with the Arrowquip 7500.
Warranty
Tarter gives 1 year. Priefert gives 5 years plus lifetime on the locks. Arrowquip’s 10 to 15 years starts at $5,750.
Cattle size
The Tarter Series 3 and Big Valley MX-V are rated to 1,200 lb. A mature Angus cow runs 1,200 to 1,400 lb, so check the rating against your herd.

What is the cheapest squeeze chute you can buy new?
The Tarter CattleMaster Series 3 at $2,999 at Tractor Supply. A Big Valley MX-V showed at $2,850 on clearance at Wilco in September 2026.
Is a $3,000 squeeze chute good enough?
For calves and smaller cows worked a few times a year, yes. For cows over 1,200 lb or bulls, spend $4,000 to $5,000 on a heavier chute like the Tarter Series 6 or a Priefert S0191.
Should I buy a used chute instead?
Used manual chutes sell for $1,300 to $3,200. A used Priefert or W-W in good shape can beat a new budget chute, but check the headgate latch and squeeze locks under load first.
Do these prices include the headgate?
Yes. Every chute in the table ships with a headgate. A headgate on its own is $1,000 to $2,500.
What about freight?
Freight is extra on all of them. Tractor Supply stocks Priefert and Tarter chutes at many stores for pickup, which avoids the freight charge.
