Why it matters
Squeeze Chute Weight: Why It Matters
Staying put
Heavy chutes do not walk across the pen when cattle fight the squeeze.
Moving it
A light chute can be moved with a loader or skid steer. A 2,000 lb chute needs planning.
Build quality
Weight is a rough stand-in for steel thickness when makers do not publish gauge.
The details
Squeeze Chute Weight: The Details
Chute weight is mostly steel. A heavier chute usually has thicker tubing and sheeting, which means it moves less when a cow hits it and lasts longer under heavy use.
Weight also works against you. A heavy chute is harder to move between pens and may need a tractor or a portable kit.

Questions
Squeeze Chute Weight: Questions
How much does a squeeze chute weigh?
Published weights on this site run from 924 lb to 2,768 lb.
Is a heavier chute better?
Heavier usually means thicker steel and less movement when cattle push, which helps with big cattle and heavy use. It also makes the chute harder to move.
Do I need to anchor a squeeze chute?
Many owners bolt or chain chutes to a pad or posts so they do not shift. Follow the maker’s setup instructions.
How do I move a squeeze chute?
With a loader, forklift or skid steer, or with a portable kit that adds wheels. Check where the maker says to lift.
Why is weight not listed for every chute?
Some makers and stores do not publish it. Ask the dealer before buying if it matters for moving the chute.
Does weight affect freight cost?
Yes. Heavier chutes cost more to ship, and freight is extra on nearly every chute.
