Where can I buy a portable electric fencing item?
The 30 portable fencing items here are listed at Farm & Fleet, Home Depot and Tractor Supply.
What do I need for a portable electric fence?
A fence charger, poly wire or tape (or electric netting), step-in posts, a ground rod setup and a fence tester. A reel makes rolling the line up and moving it much faster.
Poly wire or poly tape?
Poly wire is cheaper, lighter and holds up better in wind. Wide tape is easier for animals to see, which helps with horses and with training new stock.
What is electric netting used for?
Netting is a mesh fence with built-in posts, used for sheep, goats and poultry that would walk through single strands. It needs a charger sized for the netting length.
How many step-in posts do I need?
On flat ground, plan on a post every 20 to 30 feet for poly wire, closer on uneven ground or corners.
Which fence charger do I need?
See the fence chargers section, where 60 chargers are compared by miles, joules and power source.
Why does my portable fence have weak voltage?
Usually a poor ground, weeds touching the line, or a long run of low-conductivity poly wire. Check it with a fence tester and add ground rods if needed.
